Computing Service Systems and Facilities

Introduction and obtaining accounts

In addition to your account on the Maths computer system, which is managed by the Maths CO team, you should have been issued with an account managed by the University Information Services. It gives you access to three central services.

  • Raven is the most important centrally managed service. It is used for accessing many web pages which are restricted to Cambridge users only, in particular for access to electronic journals when away from Cambridge. Many of the links on this page also require Raven authentication.
  • Hermes is the University's central email service.
  • The MCS/DS (Managed Cluster Service / Desktop Services) consists of clusters of dual-boot PCs managed by the UCS. We have two MCS rooms in the CMS, GL.04 and the Pav B Part III Room.

If you are unable to access any of these services, please email help@maths and include the following information:

  • Your full name
  • Your gender (if not obvious from your name)
  • Your date of birth
  • Whether you are a member of staff, a student or a visitor
