Users of the Department network are reminded that their network usage is also subject to the Authorization for Use of the CUDN. In particular, we draw attention to two rules regarding updates.

  • Users and staff responsible for equipment connected to the CUDN will keep the operating and associated software up to date and will allow automatic updating where practical and appropriate. (Rule 8.7)

  • Users and staff responsible for equipment connected to the CUDN will install and keep anti-malware and anti-virus software up to date and will allow automatic updating where practical and appropriate. (Rule 8.8)

Computers which are not compliant with this policy may be disconnected. The UIS are only able to disconnect the entire faculty, which they are entitled to do if non-compliant machines are not disconnected by local IT staff. To prevent disruption to the entire faculty, therefore, a computer connected to the Department network which is not compliant with the CUDN Acceptable Usage Policy may be disconnected by the IT team.
