Adding Software

Use the company portal to download and install software. The documentation for this is on the UIS website.

Some programs are already installed on the device.

If you need software that is not available on the company portal please fill out the UIS software request form. 

The form  is on this page along side the programs which come with the UMD.

We have found some software you can install yourself. If doing this please ensure you update it whenever the software updates:
MikTex, Pycharm (community edition). 

 

PDF editing

There are chrome and edge plugins for adobe pdf which provide the ability to write pdfs.   For example this one which is provided by Adobe.

If you are using Sharepoint and opening files in your webbrowser then try this as it can edit the pdf from within your webbrowser.

This is similar to how things are managed on the research network. There are free versions of the software which we encourage people to try first before we purchase a license.

Email the maths helpdesk for a license to be purchased.
 
Maths helpdesk will then  purchase the software from Academia (https://cambridge.store.academia.co.uk/).  Once you have received the purchase order information from the maths helpdesk you then complete the UIS 'Software: request to install new software' Service Request form via the Self Service Portal as directed below. You will need to attach the purchase order showing product and licence information.
The UIS cannot process your request unless the purchase order has been attached.

 

UIS Self Service Portal

  1. Go to www.uis.cam.ac.uk/self-service home page, go to 'Make a Request', then go to the search bar on top right, and search for Software: request to install new software.
  2. Click on the form and click 'Request'.
  3. Fill out all the details and click on 'Review and Submit'.
 
Once you submit, you will receive the email of successful confirmation. Please make a note of Service Request number generated for your reference.
 
Alternately, you can also find your existing requests on same Self Service Portal home page by clicking on top Home icon on left vertical menu bar, then select the blue box called 'My Items'.
 
This request form will ensure your request is submitted to the correct team and help the process go as quickly and smoothly as possible.
The Adobe software can be downloaded from the company portal.

 

Miktex

 

Miktex can be downloaded and installed from its product page.
