The faculty is willing to provide from overhead funds, for each post-doc or researcher, a desktop machine running a standard distribution of linux (currently Ubuntu 20.04), or Windows (currently 10). These machines are, at point of purchase, comparable to the standard MCS machine and are refreshed on a 7-year cycle. Individual research groups, or researchers with individual grants, are welcome to provide their own machines on a schedule which suits themselves, although no rebate against overheads will apply in such cases.
