Linux Text Editors

Before you start programming or using tex/latex you need to learn how to use a unix text editor. You can use a search engine like google to look for tutorials on how to use the editors listed below.

Different editors can be quite different. People can get very touchy over which editor is best. Therefore the editors below are in alphabetical order. You may like to try a few of them before deciding which one(s) to use.

Note: a text editor is not the same as a word processor. If you want to work on Microsoft Office documents under Linux use libreoffice.
