Summer Research Programmes

The Summer Research Festival

The Summer Research Festival is the annual showcase of the projects that have taken place in the Faculty of Mathematics over the summer.

Over the course of the afternoon students will give short talks to share what they’ve been working on and what they have learned. All students who have worked on a project are invited to sign up and those in receipt of CMS bursary funding are expected to present.

All members of the Faculty are warmly invited to attend the talks, including students who are interested in doing a summer project in the future.

Timing

In 2024, the Summer Research Festival will take place on Monday 14 October.

Invitations

Students who have undertaken a project will receive an email roughly 6 weeks before the day inviting them to register to give a talk. Supervisors, faculty members, and other students, will also receive an email invitation around this time.

Preparing your talk

Talks should be 17 minutes long (plus a few minutes for questions) and use either Powerpoint / pdf slides or a blackboard (“Chalk Talk”). The SRIM Director, Dhruv Ranganathan, will host a Prep Workshop in the run up to help students prepare. He will offer information and advice on putting together a talk (timing, content, format etc) and answer questions.
