Features: Faculty Insights

We are delighted that Hannah Fry - the mathematician, best-selling author, award winning science presenter and host of popular podcasts and television shows - is joining us in January 2025 as Cambridge's first Professor for the Public Understanding of Mathematics.

Professor Hannah Fry announced the news at an event organised by the Faculty's MMP (maths.org) outreach and engagement initiative. The event – Communicating Mathematical and Data Sciences – What does Success Look Like? – was organised in collaboration with the Newton Gateway to Mathematics and took place at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (INI) on 21 November 2024.

In this podcast, presented by the event organisers Dr Marianne Freiberger and Rachel Thomas, Hannah Fry discusses her own work, what she is looking forward to most in coming to Cambridge, and her hopes for the future of mathematics communication.

Dr Marianne Freiberger and Rachel Thomas are Editors of Plus (plus.maths.org), part of the family of activities within the MMP. This podcast is part of the Maths on the Move series from Plus – find more information about this podcast here.
