Overview
Cambridge Mathematics has four Undergraduate Open Days each year, two Faculty Open Days in May and two University Open Days in July.
These days offer you the opportunity to get a feel for the place, talk to students and staff, participate in a Mathematics lecture, and ask questions. We look forward to seeing you.
If you cannot make an Open Day, or have missed them, the information you need to apply can be found in our admissions pages, or by emailing admissions@maths.cam.ac.uk, or by contacting individual Colleges.
What our attendees say:
"It was excellent and I enjoyed every minute while I was there. The talks were engaging and very interesting and the interview session was very fun!"
"I thought the information offered, and the overall open day format, was truly inspirational. Many thanks for putting so much thought and energy into it, and to my mind, comprehensively addressing pretty much every aspect of the application process, and course curriculum. Fantastic!"
"I really liked the small practice interview and found it very useful as my school doesn't have the resources to get these for me."
"That's a really lovely open day and I enjoyed it."
"Student ambassadors were the best part they were amazing!"
Faculty Open Days: Saturday 2 May and Saturday 9 May 2026
Two Open Days will be held at the Centre of Mathematical Science, during the afternoons of Saturday 2 and Saturday 9 May. As usual, many Colleges will hold an Open Day on the same day as the Faculty (see below**), and the idea is that students will visit a College in the morning, then attend the Faculty Open Day in the afternoon. You can find out more about individual Colleges Open Days and other outreach events here. Further details on the 2026 Open Days, including a detailed program and a Ticket Booking link, will be updated in due course. For information, please find the 2025 Open Day program below:
2025 Open Days
In the morning, most Colleges offered a variety of sessions for prospective mathematicians, which covered wider aspects of undergraduate life as well as mathematics.
In the afternoon, the Faculty of Mathematics offered a programme of in-person activities, including:
- Mathematical talks
- STEP workshop
- Preparation for interviews sessions
- Talk for parents and supporters
Leaflets about the course structure and about career in mathematics are available, and summarise the more comprehensive information in our Guide to Admissions booklet. The 'drop-in' sessions with students and staff throughout the afternoon offer the opportunity to ask questions about admissions and the course.
In addition to the in-person sessions, several recordings are available on our Faculty's YouTube channel, including mathematical talks and taster lectures, STEP workshops, and a mock interview.
You can watch recordings of the sessions held on our previous Virtual Open Days. You can also explore our website, check our FAQ, watch videos by some of our students and staff about the course and interesting maths, and find more about our free STEP Support Programme.
How To Get Here
The Centre of Mathematical Sciences (CMS) is accessible by train, bus, bike or car. If travelling by car you are strongly advised to use one of the five Park & Ride sites on the outskirts of Cambridge since parking in the city centre is non-trivial and there is no parking at the CMS (note that it is possible to walk to the CMS from the Madingley Road Park & Ride site in just over 20 minutes). Find directions and a map to the CMS here.
Overseas Students
If you live overseas, note that all colleges welcome individual inquiries and may be able to make specific arrangements to come at a different time to visit the College and meet with a Director of Studies or Admissions Tutor. You should also enquire with the British Council in your own country, who will have relevant information and may hold events for international students who wish to study at Cambridge. The Cambridge Admissions Office has information for international applicants.
University Open Days: Thursday 9 July and Friday 10 July 2026
The Faculty of Mathematics is participating in these University Open Days with a programme of in-person activities on both days, at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS). Further details will be updated in due course.
Previous years' programmes have included:
- 'Drop-in' with students and academic members of staff throughout the day for you to ask questions about the course, admissions, STEP, preparing for interviews, being a Maths student in Cambridge,
- Course presentation and taster lecture
- Talk for parents and supporters
- Sample STEP questions for you to try, with help from current students
- Preparation for interviews
- Recorded video about STEP
and you can watch more Maths talks and taster lectures.
Information about all University and College events is available on the Cambridge Open Days pages.
