Applications and colleges

At Cambridge, you are not only a member of the University, but also a member of a college, which will provide accommodation and other facilities, as well as small-group teaching and a level of academic, pastoral and financial support unsurpassed by any other UK university.

Applications are handled entirely by individual colleges. On your application you can either indicate if you have a college preference or make an open application. If you make an open application, you will be allocated a college on the basis of the number of mathematics applications per available place in each college.

Which college?

The University Undergraduate Prospectus includes a section about the colleges, which contains a substantial amount of useful information and will help you choose a college. Your choice of college is quite separate from your decision to study mathematics at Cambridge, and in many ways secondary with respect to this: often your choice will be based on factors such as the size or situation of the college, sporting or musical facilities, and other personal preferences.

Further information from colleges

Specific information concerning mathematics at an individual College is best obtained by contacting the College directly (there is a central list of college contact details). Most Colleges provide specific information about mathematics:

* These Colleges only accept applicants who will be 21 or over at entry.
