Applications and colleges
At Cambridge, you are not only a member of the University, but also a member of a college, which will provide accommodation and other facilities, as well as small-group teaching and a level of academic, pastoral and financial support unsurpassed by any other UK university.
Applications are handled entirely by individual colleges. On your application you can either indicate if you have a college preference or make an open application. If you make an open application, you will be allocated a college on the basis of the number of mathematics applications per available place in each college.
Which college?
The University Undergraduate Prospectus includes a section about the colleges, which contains a substantial amount of useful information and will help you choose a college. Your choice of college is quite separate from your decision to study mathematics at Cambridge, and in many ways secondary with respect to this: often your choice will be based on factors such as the size or situation of the college, sporting or musical facilities, and other personal preferences.
