Project

You will work on your project throughout the duration of your internship under the direction of your Supervisor.

Mentorship

In addition to your Supervisor you will also have a Mentor.  For the Research Interns this will be a PhD student currently studying at Cambridge. For the Communications Intern this will be the editors of Plus Magazine.

Events

The Faculty of Mathematics hosts between 50 and 60 mathematics research interns each summer.  Throughout your internship there will be several events which you can attend.  This will include social events, such as welcome drinks for you to meet and get to know other interns, seminars with invited speakers, and career focussed events to provide help and information to you as you consider your future career.

Project Presentation

You will be invited to deliver a short talk on your project at the Cambridge Mathematical Placements (CMP) Presentation Day, which will take place in the Centre for Mathematical Sciences on Wednesday 21 August 2024.

The CMP Presentation Day is the annual showcase of the projects undertaken by Cambridge maths students outside of the Faculty, both academic and industrial – as such it is a fantastic networking opportunity!  It will be a full-day event concluding with drinks and formal dinner at a Cambridge college.

Report

At the end of the programme, all interns will be required to write an internal report as well as communication pieces for all our platforms (Blog entry on our web page, Instagram and LinkedIn posts) about your experience.

Feedback

After the end of your project we will send you a feedback questionnaire to complete. It is a requirement of the programme to complete this. Your feedback is essential to help us build on the programme and make improvements in future years.
