The Mathematics Undergraduate Admission Committee's principal role is to monitor and review the Undergraduate Admissions process in Mathematics, making recommendations to the Faculty Board and/or the Directors of Studies in Mathematics as appropriate.  

The Committee shall meet once per Term, usually in advance of meetings of the Faculty Board and the Directors of Studies in Mathematics.  The Committee shall report its business each Term to both the Faculty Board and the Directors of Studies by submitting the minutes of its meetings. The Faculty Admissions Officer shall provide an annual report to the Faculty Board and the Admissions Convenor shall provide a written report each Term to the Directors of Studies.

Terms of Reference

  1. To monitor Faculty admissions literature and mathematics admissions materials published centrally (via any medium), advising the Faculty Admissions Officer as necessary;
  2. To review both Faculty and University Open Days along with other widening participation events and activities, advising the Faculty Outreach Officer as necessary;
  3. To monitor entrance requirements, responding to evolutions in pre-University procedures and the Higher Education sector;
  4. To review the Winter and Summer pools as a means to ensure that the best applicants are selected;
  5. To consider the arrangements and operations of STEP (and, if applicable, other admissions tests) and to review associated preparation activities and support for applicants;
  6. To monitor admissions statistics, including, but not limited to: (a) Application, entrance and cohort tracking and (b) Widening participation, equality and diversity.

The Committee may be asked to oversee implementation of agreed policy in those areas where the Faculty Board has remit; proposed alterations which represent a change in policy should be referred by the Committee back to the Faculty Board.

The Terms of Reference shall be reviewed at least every three years.

Membership

The Mathematics Undergraduate Admissions Committee is a joint subcommittee appointed of the Faculty Board of Mathematics and the Director of Studies in Mathematics. Its membership consists of:

  1. The Faculty Admissions Officer (Ex-officio);
  2. The Faculty Outreach Officer (Ex-officio);
  3. 3 members appointed by the Directors of Studies in Mathematics to serve for 3 years from 1 October (with terms staggered at 1-year intervals); 
  4. 2 members appointed by the Faculty Board of Mathematics to serve for 2 years from 1 October (with terms staggered at 1-year intervals);
  5. The Mathematics Admissions Convenor (Ex-officio, if not already a member by virtue of one of the above classes).
  6. 2 student members to serve for 2 years from 1 October (with terms staggered at 1-year intervals);
  7. Up to 2 members co-opted annually from 1 October (to support the core business in the terms above).

The Faculty Admissions Officer and the Mathematics Admissions Convenor will normally Chair on alternating academic years, unless otherwise agreed by the Committee.
