The Undergraduate Admission Committee's principal role is to monitor and review the Undergraduate Admissions process in Mathematics.

Terms of Reference

  1. The Winter and Summer Pools;
  2. The arrangements and operation of the STEP (and, if applicable, other admissions tests), and associated STEP-preparation activities;
  3. Entrance requirements (e.g. in the light of changing pre-University preparation);
  4. Faculty and University Open Days, and other Faculty and relevant CAO admissions and widening participation events and other activities;
  5. Faculty admissions literature, both paper and electronic, together with mathematics admissions publications produced centrally (e.g. the mathematics entry in the University prospectus);
  6. Application, entrance and cohort-tracking statistics related to, but not limited to, widening participation, equality and diversity.

The committee is required to:

  • advise, and/or make recommendations to, the Directors of Studies Meeting and/or the Faculty Board.
  • oversee implementation of agreed policy in those areas where the Faculty Board has remit; proposed alterations to arrangements that represent a change in policy should be referred by the Committee to the Faculty Board
  • meet at least once a term and submit to both the Faculty Board and the Director of Studies Meeting the minutes of its meetings and, in the Easter Term, an Annual Report on its activities

Membership

The Undergraduate Admissions Committee is a committee appointed by the Faculty Board of Mathematics and the Director of Studies Meeting. Its membership consists of:

  1. The Faculty Admissions Officer (Ex-officio);
  2. 3 members appointed by the Directors of Studies Meeting to serve for 3 years from 1 October (with terms staggered at 1-year intervals); 
  3. 2 members appointed by the Faculty Board of Mathematics to serve for 2 years from 1 October (with terms staggered at 1-year intervals);
  4. The Mathematics Subject Convenor (Ex-officio, if not already a member by virtue of one of the above classes).
  5. 2 student members to serve for 2 years from 1 October (with terms staggered at 1-year intervals);
  6. Up to 2 members co-opted annually from 1 October

Unless the Committee decides otherwise the Faculty Admissions Officer and the Mathematics Subject Convenor will Chair on alternating academic years.
