An exotic sphere is a smooth manifold which is homeomorphic, but not diffeomorphic, to a sphere with its standard smooth structure. There are many exotic spheres, but relatively little is known about their geometry (e.g., smooth transformation groups, curvature). This talk will describe some recent work detecting smooth rotational symmetries of exotic spheres using stable homotopy theory.
