Professor Julia Gog to help present 2021 Royal Institution Christmas Lectures

DAMTP's Professor Julia Gog will join Jonathan Van-Tam as a Guest Lecturer for this year's Royal Institution Christmas Lectures. The 2021 lectures, titled Going viral - how Covid changed science forever, will be screened on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer between Christmas and New Year, and will later be available for a global audience via the Royal Institution website.
Hawking Centre for Theoretical Cosmology named Intel oneAPI Center of Excellence

The Stephen Hawking Centre for Theoretical Cosmology in DAMTP is building on its existing collaboration with Intel to become an Intel oneAPI Center of Excellence. The oneAPI Center of Excellence will focus on advancing cosmological research, open-source code development, and in situ compute and visualisation, as well as teaching computational and visualisation coding techniques.
Dr Daria Frank wins L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women In Science 2021 Rising Talent Award

Dr Daria Frank (DAMTP) has won the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women In Science 2021 Rising Talent Mathematics and Computer Science Award, for her research on controlling multiphase turbulent jets and plumes in order to protect our environment.
Professor Jack Thorne awarded 2022 New Horizons in Mathematics Prize

Professor Jack Thorne FRS (DPMMS) has been awarded the 2022 New Horizons in Mathematics Prize, for his transformative contributions to diverse areas of algebraic number theory. The $100,000 New Horizons prizes are awarded annually by the Breakthrough Prize Foundation to early career researchers who have already made a substantial impact on their fields.
Applications now open for the Adams Prize 2021-22

Applications are invited for the 2021-22 Adams Prize, one of the oldest and most prestigious prizes in the University of Cambridge. The prize will be awarded this year for achievements in the field of Number Theory. The deadline for receipt of applications is 31 October 2021.
Professor Michael Green FRS awarded Royal Medal 2021

Professor Michael Green FRS has been awarded the Royal Society's 2021 Royal Medal for his crucial and influential contributions to the development of string theory over a long period, including the discovery of anomaly cancellation. The Royal Medals, also known as the Queen’s Medals, are awarded annually by HM the Queen on the recommendation of the Council of the Royal Society, in recognition of important and distinguished contributions in the physical, biological and applied sciences.
Adams Prize Winners 2020-21 Announced

The Adams Prize 2020-21 has been awarded jointly to Professor Mahir Hadžić and Professor Jeffrey Galkowski, both of University College London, for their work in the field of Evolution Equations. The Adams Prize is awarded jointly each year by the Faculty of Mathematics and St John’s College, Cambridge, to UK-based researchers under the age of 40 doing first class international research in the Mathematical Sciences.

Dr Ailsa Keating wins 2021 LMS Berwick Prize

Dr Ailsa Keating (DPMMS) has been awarded the 2021 Berwick Prize by the London Mathematical Society for her work shedding light on the global symmetries of symplectic manifolds. The Prize is awarded in alternate years in recognition of a piece of outstanding mathematical research.
'Blood Counts' AI-based infectious disease detection wins £1M Trinity Challenge prize

An innovative AI-based infectious disease detection solution, developed by an international consortium of scientists led by Professor Carola-Bibiane Schönlieb (DAMTP), has been awarded £1 million in pledged funding as one of two second-prize winners in the inaugural Trinity Challenge. Developed by Dr Michael Roberts (DAMTP) and Dr Nicholas Gleadall, the BloodCounts! solution uses data from routine blood tests to provide an early warning system for new disease outbreaks.
