Research

Adrien is part of the Environmental and Industrial Fluid Dynamics research group and works in the G. K. Batchelor Laboratory. His current research is funded by a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Independent Research Fellowship and focuses on the stability, nonlinear waves, turbulent transition and mixing of stratified shear flows, like those found in much of our oceans and estuaries. His goal is to better understand the small-scale physics of stratified turbulence to represent them more faithfully in large-scale models of environmental flows important to our climate and society.

Alongside this, Adrien also developed an interest in the physics of decompression sickness experienced while SCUBA diving, using experiments of fracturing hydrogels that mimic soft body tissues. Over the last two years, he has also been part a larger team effort in DAMTP that combines large datasets from laboratory experiments and direct numerical simulations, funded by a European Research Council (ERC) grant led by Prof Paul Linden.
