Adams Prize 2018-19 - applications now open

Applications are invited for the 2018-19 Adams Prize, one of the oldest and most prestigious prizes in the University of Cambridge. The prize will be awarded this year for achievements in the field of 'The Mathematics of Networks'. The deadline for receipt of applications is 31 October 2018.
Adams Prize Winners 2017-18 Announced

The Adams Prize is awarded jointly each year by the Faculty of Mathematics and St John’s College, Cambridge, to UK-based researchers, under the age of 40, doing first class international research in the Mathematical Sciences. This year's topic was 'The Mathematics of Astronomy and Cosmology', and the prize has been awarded jointly to Dr Claudia de Rham and Dr Gustav Holzegel, both of Imperial College London.
Professor Michael McIntyre honoured by Royal Meteorological Society

Professor Michael McIntyre (DAMTP) has been appointed as an Honorary Fellow by the Royal Meteorological Society, the highest award of membership made by the Society, in recognition of his distinguished career and long standing contribution to Meteorology.
Contagion! The BBC Four Pandemic

DAMTP researchers in disease dynamics, including Professor Julia Gog, Dr Stephen Kissler, and PhD student Maria Tang, worked with the BBC on a huge citizen science disease dynamics experiment featured on the documentary Contagion! The BBC Four Pandemic. 30,000 people took part in the citizen science experiment, which has resulted in the largest data set of its kind.

The Faculty is saddened to report the death of Professor Stephen Hawking on 14th March 2018, aged 76. The Faculty extends sympathy to his family and many friends, as friends and colleagues pay tribute to his extraordinary scientific achievements.

Mathematics student Lewis Croney stars in Channel 4 documentary

The first episode of a two-part Channel 4 documentary Working Class White Men followed the journeys of three young men, including talented student Lewis Croney as he worked to achieve his goal of winning a place at Cambridge to study Maths.

Three of the five 2017 Philip Leverhulme Prizes for Mathematics have been awarded to Faculty researchers: Dr Anders Hansen (DAMTP), Dr Oscar Randal-Williams (DPMMS) and Dr Carola-Bibiane Schönlieb (DAMTP). The prizes recognise the achievement of outstanding researchers whose work has already attracted international recognition and whose future career is exceptionally promising. Each Prize includes £100,000 to advance the prizewinner's research.

Dr Pierre Haas (DAMTP) has been awarded the American Physical Society’s 2017 Award for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research in Biological Physics. The award recognises outstanding quality and achievement of PhD research in any area of experimental, computational, engineering, or theoretical biological physics.
