Postgraduate Study in Mathematics

The purpose of Researcher Development is to help you learn the skills which will allow you to have a successful career, whether in research and teaching, or beyond academia, for example in industry. Researcher Development is therefore an essential part of any research degree.

What is required?

Both Departments have minimum expectations of the training that research students should undertake.  Students are required to submit a log of their development activities on an annual basis.  For further information, and a template log see:

What training is available?

The policy within the Faculty is to give students the opportunity to develop their skills through taking on real responsibilities within their research groups and the Department, supported appropriately by more formal training. In addition, the University provides a wide range of formal training opportunities. We advise you to take full advantage of the opportunities on offer.
