Research Area

Maria Christina is a member of the Nonlinear Dynamical Systems group at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Her supervisor is Professor A.S. Fokas and her current research interests lie in the field of Partial Differential Equations, with particular emphasis on Integrable Systems.

  • Offer for a scholarship from the Lilian Voudouri Foundation for the academic year 2016-2017; she was unable to accept this scholarship because she had already been granted the aforementioned full-cost Warwick Graduate Studentship.
  • Award for Academic Excellence from the Rector of the University of Patras for achieving the highest final grade (9.88 out of 10) among all students who graduated from the Mathematics Department during the academic year 2015-2016.
  • Four consecutive Awards of Best Performance (2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16) from the Department of Mathematics, University of Patras.
  • Silver medal at "SEEMOUS 2014" (South-Eastern European Mathematical Olympiad for University Students), March 2014 in Iasi, Romania. Bronze medal at "SEEMOUS 2013", March 2013 in Athens, Greece. Honorary Certificates for these medals both from the Department of Mathematics and from the Rector of the University of Patras.
  • Scholarship of Entrance into the Department of Mathematics (University of Patras, 2012) from the Greek Ministry of Education, on the basis of her final grade from Secondary School.

Teaching and Related Activities

  • Supervising third year undergraduate students for the course "Integrable Systems" (Michaelmas Term 2018), University of Cambridge.
  • Supervising second year undergraduate students for the course "Complex Analysis" (Lent Term 2019), University of Cambridge.
  • Grading for the course "Boundary Value Problems for Linear PDEs" (Michaelmas Term 2018), a master’s course covering the Fokas Method at the University of Cambridge.
  • Interviewing/assessing prospective students in Mathematics for Christ's College (2018-2020) and Homerton College (2018), University of Cambridge.
  • Preparing secondary school students for taking part in the Greek national mathematics competitions (2013-2014 and 2014-2015), Hellenic Mathematical Society.
