Science Communications for the Institute of Computing for Climate Science
The Institute of Computing for Climate Science studies and supports the role of software engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, and data science within climate science.
The institute comprises a collaboration between Cambridge Zero, the Departments of Computer Science and Technology, Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, and University Information Services at the University of Cambridge. ICCS is funded by Schmidt Futures.

Brief Description of the Project |
We are looking for an enthusiastic science communicator to support creating new scientific media content to inform and inspire public audiences about climate science and the role of software engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, and data science within climate science. You will help the public audience understand highly technical information and concepts, play an integral role in expanding the online presence of the newly established Institute of Computing for Climate Science at the Faculty of Mathematics, and have a range of opportunities to work with senior academics in the field. Some examples of what you will be working on include the institute website and blogs, with the possibility of even starting a podcast. You will also assist with the annual Summer School that the institute will be hosting for PhD students and post-doctoral researchers in July 2023. |
What we are looking for |
We are looking for a student with a background (or strong interest) in STEM who is interested in scientific writing / communications; has outstanding written and oral communications skills; possesses creativity for making complicated technical concepts seem simple to others; and is familiar with using content management systems. In selecting for this programme, consideration will be given to our objective to widen participation in mathematical research, paying particular attention to ethnicity. The University will be using positive action under the Equality Act 2010 to tackle the underrepresentation of, and overcome the disadvantage experienced by, certain groups. To help encourage participants from all backgrounds, ICCS will help to support the successful candidate in securing accommodation and the cost of accommodation and subsistence in Cambridge for the period of the internship. |
