We will present several examples of groups arising from actions on trees and buildings, both well known and new ones. The structure of the underlying space is used to analyse the C*-algebras associated to the actions.
The talk is based on joint results with Ben Steinberg, Eusebio Gardella, Nadia Larsen, Mark Lawson and Volodymyr Nekrashevich.
