  • Carola–Bibiane Schönlieb has been awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize in Mathematics and Statistics
  • Holly Krieger, while recently visiting The John Adams Institute, was interviewed by Ellen de Bruin of NRC Handelsblad about her way of teaching mathematics. This interview is now available to read (in Dutch) and includes video clips in English.

  • Ems Lord, NRICH Programme Director, has been elected President of the Mathematical Association for 2019/2020. The Mathematical Association is the oldest established teachers' subject association in the UK.
  • Megan Davies-Wykes has won the first UK Fluids Network photo competition. Her photo ‘(Accidental) double diffusive instability’ can be viewed on the UK Fluids Network webpage.
  • The winners have been announced for the Faculty of Mathematics photography competition. Johannes Hjorth, Joana Grah and Veronica Corona won in both the categories 'Life at CMS' and 'Maths at Cambridge', while the category of 'Mobile Maths' was won by Julia Goedecke.

Julia Gog awarded a Whitehead Prize for her wide-ranging contributions to the mathematical understanding of disease dynamics, particularly influenza, based on both mathematical mastery and profound biological insight, gained from her long-standing collaborations with immunologists and epidemiologists.

Opening of the 'Women of Mathematics throughout Europe' exhibition.This special extended exhibition is supplemented with portraits and interviews featuring Cambridge female mathematicians.The programme, starting at 3:30pm, includes mathematical talks and a panel discussion about issues affecting women in mathematics, and will close with networking over a drinks reception. Registration is free.

The LMS Girls in Mathematics Day is hosted jointly by the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Cambridge, and the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences. This full-day event for Year 12 girls (ages 16-17) studying A-level Mathematics is now fully booked. However, you can join the waiting list to be notified if more places become available.

Helen Mason teams up with astronaut Tim Peake to create sports and science activities for schools taking part in the Space to Earth Challenge. She received the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) Prize Lecture Award from the President of the RAS at the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno in July 2015
