How to Get Assistance and Help : help@maths
Please mail us at help@maths for assistance with computing/IT.
- Projects that are happening now to improve Maths IT and computing services. Generated from the computing wishlist via discussion with the CITC (Computing Information Technology Committee) and stakeholders
- Wishes for new IT/Computing Services
- The Maths Computer Officer Team
The Computer Officers will respond immediately to any report of a problem which is causing widespread disruption, such as a failed fileserver or network breakdown. In these circumstances please contact any of the Computer Officers by telephone (Ext 66100), in person or using the urgent computing/IT support email address of really-urgent@maths.
The Computer Officers will normally respond quickly to requests for help by email but they will prioritise their workload and, if necessary, defer responding to a request because of more urgent work.
Other sources of help
- ask friends and colleagues
- Check the computing wiki
- several of the research groups have a computer systems manager responsible for looking after the specialist software (and hardware) operated by the group. You should normally direct requests for help about group-specific matters to your group computer manager, but please feel free to ask the Computers Officers about general computing matters as we know everything about anything (or can find someone who does).
- Information about most UNIX commands is available on-line using the man command or the info command.
